Based on some reading I have done on the Pens new coach, I like what Bylsma potentially brings to the the table. He is promoting a more aggressive game in all areas. That is what I would like to see. I can’t tell you how many times I have watched our defensemen back all the way into our zone when an opposing skater was coming in to the zone. Even when the other team was shorthanded, our D would back all the way to our own end boards allowing the penalty killer to get a shot on goal. I would love to see a more aggressive attack. Maybe our shot allowed on goal totals would come down to a reasonable level.
Bylsma seems to really have a passion for the game. Hopefully, that is contagious. This team needs a huge injection of passion.
It will be interesting to see if passion and aggression improve the powerplay. I, personally, do not think the slumping powerplay is Mike Yeo’s fault. I think the overall mentality of the team is off kilter. Maybe some new leadership will bring the focus back.
