I Googled a few “EXPERTS” and have included their picks in with ours. The HNIC folks turn theirs in right before every game. The only missing entry from the first round is RBuckle who was anchoring the bottom… hopefully I didn’t scare RBuckle away. But, if you look at those who get paid to do this… OUR GYPSY’S appear to be much better, so far. I couldn’t find anything from Starky, nor Molinari’s first round or Molinari’s Penguin prediction. Let’s hope we put these experts shams to rest with a good 2nd round. I also calculated their first round predictions based on our scoring system:
We got this started a little bit late but we ended with (10) entries in the So You THINK you are a GYPSY Contest. Initially, I decided on a simple scoring system where (1) was awarded to calling the series on the nose and minus (1) point if you predicted the wrong team.
Personally I can’t see any of you doing better than I would… yet MS FORECZECH has jumped into a first round lead. What makes her picks so good is…
that she also selected…
7 of the 8 winners only missing the Sharks… which she had winning in 7 games. Penguin871 also had 7 winners… only missing with the NY Rangers loss. Good job by both of you. Kutdacheez on the other hand got only 50% of the teams correct. Try flipping a coin next time, Bubba… it couldn’t be worse!
For the 2nd round I decided to raise the point values to give new comers to win the PENGUINPOOP GYPSY AWARD 2009. All based on Toe Blake’s quote: Predictions are for Gypsies.
- 6 points if predicting is on the nose (Team/Game)
- 3 points if predicting correct team
- Minus 4 points if you don’t select the right team

I see Kutdacheez, Phil Krundle, and RBuckle bringing up the rear making a terrific comeback in the 2nd round. With the Caps- in does Stealth get in the mix? If so, who does he pick? Does the great SEEK put his reputation on the line? We shall see.
Possibly even STH35 and Reg Dunlap gazing into their crystal ballz and getting “in the game”….. we’ll see, eh.

Now that I have been “called out”, I guess I will have to make some predictions. I certainly do not consider myself a gypsy, to be sure. And, I have to warn you, I am a horrible prognosticator. (this is why I write the game reviews) Therefore, in picking the Pens to win in 5 games, I could be putting the whammy on them. Well, hopefully it will just prolong their or shorten the time it takes the Pens to closeout the series.

I like the idea and have found the first round predictions from Barry Melrose, Matt Barnaby, Al Strachan (Toronto Sun and HNIC personality), Steve Ludzik, Mark Osborne, John Buccigross and a few others. Shocking that using our scoring system they are not doing so well. They would most all be in our bottom third. If anyone could find Molinari’s and Starkey’s for the first round please post it here. Thanks in advance. I’m having a problem finding them via google searches.

Hey HOOK . . . I like KULT SKATES idea of searching out some of the experts who get paid to make the predictions. Maybe we all can search them and get their picks in the mix. Some of the media people are like the weather forcasters who never get checked in public.
I know my entry into the gypsy contest is a little late. Here is how I see the first round. Advancing in the East I see the Bruins, Capitals, Penguins, and Hurricanes. With the Hurricanes winning in the last minute of the seventh game. In the West I will pick the Red
Wings, Canucks, Blackhawks, and Ducks. I feel pretty confident about these choices. Instead of picking who I think will win. I am going to pick who I want to win. That would be the four lower seeds. Peunguins, Hurricanes, Blackhawks, and Ducks. All in six
MS Forczech I’m in:
Carolina in 6, Pens in 5 (easily), Detroit in 7, Chicago in 6 (though I read Toews didn’t practice 2day)
I also want to go on record wondering why a poll on a PITSSBURGH PENGUIN site is named after some stupid comment some Montreal Canadian player made. I think it needs renamed – It’s not 2 late.
Also – I don’t think DR HOOK or Boombastic looked into the possibility that the MS in MS Forczech – might stand for Martin Straka or maybe you two did. boom boom! LOL
Just a suggestion but you might want to consider including some of the so-called experts that get paid to publish these type predictions. Like the local guys and The Hockey News, TSN.ca, the Toronto Star, Ottawa Sun, etc……….. just a suggestion.
