Here is one to ponder.

I, unfortunately, did not get to see the Pens vs. Islanders game. Glad to see they won. 2-0 is nice way to start.

I was listening to Mark Madden on the 105.9, the X, the other day and he threw and interesting question out to his listeners. He asked everyone which opposing team do they now hate the most. It is interesting because, as Penguin fans, we have invested a ton of energy in hating teams like the Flyers and Rangers. These are division rivals forever so naturally, there will be disdain there.  In more recent years, it seems Detroit and Washington deserve a bit more of our hatred. Back to Back Stanley Cup Finals match-ups with the Red Wings and the pathetic way they dealt with losing (wah wah, Crosby didn’t shake Lidstrom’s hand, wah wah), have created a lot of loathing towards them.  All the hype about Ovechkin ,comments made by Semin, and a growing rivalry have led to more animosity towards the Capitals.

I would like to know what all of you out there are thinking.  Who are the teams you most like to hate?

  1. I used to hate the Flyers with every ounce of my being. However, since we have kicked their ass a lot lately….Not as much. Hated the Red Wings. However, after we beat them in the Stanley Cup…Not as much. I currently hate Alex Ovechkin and the Crapitals most. Enough of him already. Can we say overrated?

  2. For me it’s the “Caps”; it started when Jagr played for them and now all the hype Ovechkin gets. Philly is a very, very close second. Detroit and Hossa don’t even count…..the best payback came at the end of the last game when Hossa was in the wrong line for the handshake! His choice!!!!!!!!!

  3. Let’s hear some opinions from the Poop followers. I know you guys have some good reasons for disliking the teams you do, so let’s hear them.
Personally, I think the history we have had with Philly tops the list for me. This is a long standing, cross state rivalry. I think no matter what, the dislike (nay, hatred) for Philly is embedded in the psyche of all Penguin fans.

  4. We have played Detroit like 16 times in the last two years. I would say that is enough. Almost all of those in very important, emotional situations. I think that is why I find myself hating the Red Wings the most right now. Philly is probably a close second with the Caps creeping up the chart.

  5. Philly and Washington for me. I’d like to say Detroit, but we don’t play them enough.

  6. I hate the Flyers then the Capitals it might not even be the Capitals, maybe just the fake 8. It is usually the teams that play dirty that I dislike. Detroit played a mostly clean series, they are just a bunch of whiners!

  7. Personally I don’t think Madden has an ounce of Hockey knowledge in his body, he is just good at stirring things up and he has a loyal following of dolts – Which he calls dolts when they call. Wasn’t he a one of those wwf type wrestlers? I think that says it all.

Anyway, for my money. the Ovechkin rivalry is the main one, as soon as Hossa left Detroit I didn’t care about them, I think they lost a good chunk of firepower anyway and Osgood sucks which will show this year. Philly is second, Ottawa was a big rival, not so much anymore. I put the Devils above the Rangers.
