Holiday Blues: Penguins lose to Toronto

First off, I hope everyone had a nice holiday.  Apparently, the Pens hadn’t gotten the holiday gift giving spirit out of their systems yet.  They were giving away pucks like Santa gives away toys.  All of this on a night when the Pens were well rested and the Leafs had played the night before.

Notes:

  • The Pens seem unable to defend against the cycle lately.  Toronto had no problem controlling the puck in Pittsburgh’s zone.
  • The Pens had their opportunities.  They missed a number of good scoring opportunities.  Guerin hit the post twice; one when he had the puck right in front of a mostly open net.
  • One thing about this Penguins team; you can’t give up on them.  Tonight, they scored a goal with 2:15 left in the game to tie it up.  That was cool.  The fact that they got lazy in their own zone and allowed Toronto to score the winner with 1:22 left….sucked.
  • The power play went 1 for 2.  Maybe that is getting back on track.

Oh well, they can get back on track Tuesday against Buffalo.
