As soon as the game ended last night, I started to write my piece for PenguinPoop. I was going to write about all the bad things that happened. We all know the reasons the Penguins are down 2-0 in the series. Instead I am going to look at the bright side. At this point the Penguins have lost two one-goal games on the road to a team, one player in particular, that has put everything they have into winning those games. A break here, a save there, a call or non-call by the refs, and the result of both games could have been different. I’m not saying that the Capitals didn’t deserve to win both of those games — they did. They were the slightly better team on both nights. Badger Bob always said you can lose three games and still win the series.
Over the course of the next couple of days, we are going to find out if the Penguins are as good as the team that they were down the stretch. I believe that they are. The home crowd will be fired up Wednesday night and the team will follow suit. Many of the things that we have talked about that need to happen for the Penguins to win will happen. The powerplay did produce on Monday and will again. Malkin will be one of the best players on the ice. Fleury will be the better goaltender. At least two of the goal-less players will score. And Crosby will continue his outstanding play. 7:08 Wednesday night can’t get here fast enough.
That’s the view from E-11.
Note: Nice theatrical dive by Ovechkin. When he watches it on tape, I hope he’s proud of himself.
