Pens Continue to Win

I can remember playing dek hockey where my team was up by 6 or 7 goals and in an effort to minimize embarrassment for the other team, we would play keep away rather than trying to score more goals.  That is what it looked like for a good portion of this game.  Unfortunately, the Pens were not up by 6 or 7 goals.  It would have been nice to see the Pens find a few more of their opportunites hitting the back of the net.  That may sound strange knowing the Penguins won by a count of 4-1, but the Pens had 33 shots on goal including a bunch of shots on 2 two-man advantages.  The score could have been much worse.

Overall, the Pens played a fantastic game.  Many times, teams have a let down during their first home game back from a long road trip.  Our boys did not have that let down.  They seemed to be very much up for this game.  It does not hurt that they are getting contributions from everyone.  Tonight, Mike Rupp scored his second goal in two games, the defense as a group was awesome, Pascal Dupuis gets on the scoresheet for the first time tonight and Crosby gets only his second and third assists on the season.  it is wonderful to know that the team is doing this well while Crosby’s numbers are not where we might expect them to be.  Right now, they are just finding ways to win.

Notes:

  • Am I the only one that wishes Malkin would ease up on the no-look passes?
  • Fleury continues to impress.  This guy is playing incredibly well.  6-0 for those of you not keeping track.
  • Goddard played a game without getting into a fight.
  • Jay Mckee had 7 blocked shots tonight to extend his league leading total.
  • The Pens allowed only 23 shots on goal.
  • It is hard to say because our team is so good, but, I still miss Ryan Malone.
  • The Pens managed to win wearing the dreaded powder puff, pansy blue jerseys.

Let’s continue to ride the wave boys!
