Pens Lose to Coyotes

Wow, I haven’t witnessed a lackluster performance like that since the Penguins were trying to get Michel Therrien fired.  The Coyotes looked like a team that wanted to send a message to the Stanley Cup champs.  The Pens were outplayed in every aspect of the game…….except for taking penalties.  Nine times the Pens were shorthanded, including a double minor to Malkin for high sticking.  It is definitely harder to get your rhythm when you are shorthanded that much.  It was more than the penalties.  The Pens were mishandling pucks, they were out of position, they were outworked and just generally outplayed.

I will say that I never lost faith.  One thing about this Penguin team; they never seem to be out of the game.  There always appears to be hope with these guys. Unfortunately, it did not happen tonight.  Every once in a while, as a fan, you expect your team to have an off night.  I, however, was not expecting it during the third game of the season with three days off and playing at home.  It is pretty disappointing.

Notes:

  • I thought Brent Johnson looked pretty good.  He made one spectacular save on Shane Doan.  I have to admit I was definitely worried about Johnson after seeing him pre-season.  I feel a little bit better after tonight.

Well, let’s see how our boys rebound against the dreaded Flyers tomorrow.
