Though the game did not have the kind of fireworks that I would have expected, given the way the game went Saturday, it was great to see the Pens hand it to their division rivals once again.
The Rangers did start the game with quite a bit of energy and determination. They dominated play for the first part of the first period. If not for the fine play of Fleury, the game could have gone a different direction. As it turned out Fleury and the Pens withstood the early onslaught, were able to go on to wear the Rangers down and come home with the 5-3 victory.
It seemed like the game could turn ugly early on, but as time went by, the “tough guys” saw less ice time. Even Sean Avery seemed to take his agitation down a notch. Maybe the referees had a conference with the coaches.
Notes:
- The Penguins have a knack for scoring goals very shortly after giving up goals. This has been a trend that started early in the season. It is a great thing to immediately take momentum away from the other team.
- Has anybody seen this kid Crosby, he is going to be a good player.
- It was great to see Mike Rupp score a hat trick. He really seemed to thrive on the third line with TK and Staal. Maybe he has earned a look from the coaching staff on the power play. He could do some damage standing in front of opposing netminders.
I like what I am seeing.
and thats 13 goals in 2 games. I like what I see recently.
“He could do some damage standing in front of opposing netminders.”
