Finally the NHL will be showcasing their superstars, after all the hype Sidney Crosby & Alexander Ovechkin got at the Winter Olympics, it would seem that the NHL has come to it’s senses and will be having them go head to head in the NHL’s showcase event, the Winter Classic .

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette the Washington Capitals vs Pittsburgh Penguins, January 1, 2011 at Heinz Field, the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers is almost a done deal though it won’t be announced until mid summer.  Both the NHL and the Pittsburgh Penguins have yet to confirm it, probably so they can have the big media event when announcing it.   Ticket prices probably will be $100 to $500 and even though it takes place in Pittsburgh, the Washington Capitals will be considered the home team.

You can read more about it here:

  1. if ur traveling to Pittsburgh for the game…a good place to stay would be the Springhill Suites Pittsburgh Mills…its like 20 minutes or so from downtown and its right next to route 28…and it never seems to busy so i would imagine there would be rooms

  2. Crosby already got his classic, winning it in a SO.
Sure PIT vs WAS is always a big event, but the penguins are already popular enough. Lets have an east vs west classic for once.

  3. penguins don’t deserve another winter classic. let somebody else have a turn at a winter classic!

  4. Buy me a ticket to the game and you can stay at my house, free shuttle to the T included.

  5. If you’re thinking about going down to the game and are going to want to stay in town for New Year’s Eve, make your hotel reservations now. The Spring Hill Suites across from PNC Park is already booked solid for New Year’s Eve. Don’t know if the new hotel they’re building on the North Shore will be open in time. That leaves the Hilton and the Reanaissance as the closest hotels, and their rooms are going fast. Once the NHL makes this official, you won’t be able to get a room in Downtown Pittsburgh anywhere so why not do it now. You can always cancel if it doesn’t happen.

    1. Try the Best Western in Green Tree, we stayed there and went to Pen’s and Leaf’s Dec.27, it was a 8 min shuttle to arena!!!!!!!! I hate Ovechkin and the rest of the Craps!!!!!!!

    1. I think the Crapitals petitioned the NHL so much to have a gme there that making them the home team was the only way to appease them. I think I read somewhere about how it rains to much in washington or the weather may be to warm around new years. didn’t they have an outdoor hockey game in Vegas once?
