Nashville aquires Denis Grebeshkov from Edmonton for a 2nd Round Pick:
Nashville acquires a good puck moving defenseman to go along with Ryan Suter and Shea Weber. It will probably lessen the blow of losing Dan Hamhuis. Grebeshkov is an RFA after the season, and there was no way Edmonton was bringing him back so a 2nd round pick was probably fair value.
Ottawa acquires Andy Sutton from the Islanders for a 2nd round pick:
Sutton gives the Senators a good stay at home defensive presence. He’s a big boy at 6′ 6″, but has never been mistaken for Zdeno Chara. Offensive upside is limited, but I don’t think that’s what Ottawa got him for. He’ll be a UFA at season’s end so the Islanders were happy to get what seems to be the going rate for mid level players this year, a 2nd round pick. Sutton would have looked great in a Penguins uniform, but unfortunately, the Islanders asking price of a draft pick mixed with Sutton’s salary of $3 million would not have worked with the Pens’ salary cap problems. The Penguins would have had to send a player back to the Island, and they really weren’t interested in getting a body in return.
