Stanley Cup Finals: Flyers vs Blackhawks Who to route for? It’s a no brainer

As everyone knows the Stanley Cup Finals were set last night, the Philadelphia Flyers and the Chicago Blackhawks. With our beloved Pittsburgh Penguins not in the big dance, some fans may be torn on who to cheer for. On one hand there is Marian Hossa and his high flying Chicago Blackhawks, against the Philadelphia Flyers. To me it’s a no brainer, it will be Blackhawks all the way. Marian has payed his dues. If he had signed with the Penguins, then more than likely Brooks Orpik would be playing somewhere else. I’m sure we would not be able to keep Letang either.  So I say, “Marian, thank you.”

It’s not really the Flyer team I dislike, it’s their fans. I dislike Philadelphia sports fans as a whole.  I have gone to games several times over the years to the Wachovia Center or the FU Center to watch Flyers/Penguins with my brother in law(who is a die hard fan). I have heard fathers teach their young children to chant, “Crosby Sucks”, or watch fans start fights with people just because they cheer for someone that does not wear black and orange. Black and orange should be saved for Halloween. What kind of example is that for the families that want to take their children to a game?  The sad part about this is that I have personally witnessed the transformation of my ten year old nephew from someone that loved sports as a whole, now to someone who whines, boos, and screams about things he has no idea about. His father does not know either. Oh well, I guess that’s a day in the life of a Flyer fan.  A person who boos, screams, and whines about a game they can not comprehend.  I found this video  and I think  everyone Penguin fan will enjoy it.

Blackhawks in six!

  1. You’re entitled to your opinion as far as fans go, but my guess is that Santa Claus would disagree. (and will prob check his list a third time to sort out the Philly fan scum)

As for Crosby- I’d agree that in his rookie season he was a bit of a whiner… I can say that today it’s a completely different story. Remember he entered the league at 18… So you could argue that You might see some high school like behavior. Not an excuse, just an observation that he’s lost that additude as he’s matured

I’m not going to even touch the diving / integrity of the game comment. A Philly fan who states Crosby is hurting the integrity of the game is sort of like David Hasselhoff calling Crosby a drunk.

      1. 7. Boo a hand transplant recipient

        8. Kill a fan over a spilled beer

…your argument against Crosby is pretty lame. It’s not like he tried to bite someone’s finger off… He’s playing hockey.
And I think you missed the point here- Sure we hate the flyers. But we hate their fans even more. Apparently for good reason.

        1. You forgot my all time favorite… Philly snowball fight

I agree Philly fans can be dicks, it’s on full display in the snowball fight video. I grew up in Erie as a Philly fan and to say that Philly fans are worse than Pittsburgh fans is just ludicrous. They are on all accounts equally bad, accents included. Both cities have historically, and current great programs and the passionate fans that go with it.

You do have to admit he takes a lot of dives though. He is a premier hockey player and it looks like he can barely skate sometimes. It is just plain out cheating. Not on par with a typical penalty. He is trying to decieve the officials, it just removes integrity from the game. I know some Flyers take dives, but Crosby is the captain of the team and like it or not the face of the NHL and I feel it is important he play with integrity for both those reasons. Let the jokers on your team take dives if that is part of the strategy, Crosby should just play hockey and lose the bitching at the refs schtick.

This is still the cheapest play I’ve ever seen. Your golden boy is a diving, whining player.

Take a look at some of these clips and then tell me he is not the most unsportsmanlike player in the game. Diving is on par with steroids, except it makes yourself look like a weak pansy instead of actually making yourself a better player.

    Enjoy the time off Pens.

  3. It really is the fans. I don’t like Hartnell’s antics either, but really, if the fans weren’t so bad I think I could tolerate the Flyers a little more. My friends and I spent a night in Philly over spring break in Pens shirseys – Fleury, Crosby, Guerin and Talbot. We were kicked out of stores, booed on the streets and challenged to fights. We responded in homage to Max and just “shhhh”ed them all.

There was a kid next to me after a Pens/Flyers game at the Igloo waiting for autographs later that month. He was in a Flyers shirt, standing with his dad. A guy behind me looked at him and then said to me, “It’s alright – he still has time to learn what good hockey is and how to act at games.” I wish that this statement wasn’t so true. Class doesn’t go out of style. Maybe Flyers fans should remember that. Even the players should. I witnessed Hartnell and Carcillo flip off the Pens fans as the bus pulled away. Hopefully the hockey gods teach them a lesson in the Final.

    Go Hawks.

  4. Don’t care much about Hossa losing since he screwed Detroit just like he did us. The fact that Chicago is paying him almost 8 million a season and he only has 2 goals in 16 playoff games, thats priceless.

  5. I agree with a lot of your points. Hossa hatin’ is so last year. And, even before that, you have to give him the benefit of the doubt. He based his decision on going to Detroit because Therrien was still the coach. Who’d have thought that we’d get a new coach that would lead us to Lord Stanley?

As for the Flyers. I agree it’s not so much the players as the fans. I still have memories of my Family trip to the Spectrum and them throwing lit cigarettes at me and my Father, burning my jersey. I was in high school.

Tired of Philly fans coming into my place of work and running their mouths. Win or lose. Tired of hearing how Crosby sucks. Crosby is a cry baby. Even heard, that he’s a cheap shot artist. Really? And, apparently, Ovechkin is the best player in hockey. As far as I can remember, he didn’t share a scoring title, win a Stanley Cup or a Gold Medal for his country. So, maybe, Ovechkin should start crying. Malkin’s English is better than his.

But, tonight, I met 11 of the nicest Philly fans. Apparently, there’s 11 and they were all in Pittsburgh, at the same time for the Firefighters Convention. They were sweet. We talked about the legacy of the Broadstreet Bullies. And hockey. Without the mention of crybabies or sucking. I wished them Good luck. But deep down, I know I didn’t mean it.

    Let’s Go Hawks!

  6. Everyone knows the only reason Philly was able to make it to the cup this year was because they didn’t have to play Pittsburgh who easily eliminates them every year.

    1. You must mean the last two years because if I’m not mistaken…

      Regular season games: 133–85–30 PHI
      Regular season series: 29–11–2 PHI
      Post season games: 15–14 PHI
      Post season series: 3–2 PHI

It’s ok, that all happened before Crosby was a Penguin and before you gave a damn about the team. Since they have been good (two years) you have been better than us. I guess having consecutive overall picks 5, 1, 2, 1, 2 can give a team a temporary boost.

      Enjoy the time off.
