Was the hockey stick Sidney Crosby used to score the “Golden Goal” on the “Black Market”?

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported the other day that in an article “Crosby’s missing Olympic gloves and stick located

The other glove and his stick were found among a shipment of equipment in Toronto that was headed to the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame in Russia. Hockey Canada said the items were inadvertently misplaced, not stolen.”

The International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame is located in Toronto, Canada.

The stick really made it’s way to Sergei Afanasiev who owns has a personal hockey stick collection of thousands of hockey sticks which he displays in a hockey stick museum in, yes you guessed it, St. Petersburg Russia, a hockey museum that Evgeni Malkin has been to. Afanasiev had the stick and returned it and claimed he did not know it was the stick Crosby used to score the big goal with.

What his connection with the person at the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame who sent it to him is, how he obtained it and how much he paid for it has not been mentioned, and it doesn’t seem like anyone is looking into this.  We here at PenguinPoop have officially declared shenanigans.
