The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins are off to a fast start under new coach Mike Sullivan. Including games played through Saturday, October 24, the Baby Pens are tied for first place in the Atlantic Division with a record of 5-1-0. They’ve scored 22 goals and allowed an even dozen.
Goalie Matt Murray, who earned First-Team AHL All-Star honors as a rookie in 2014-15, is in peak form. Last season’s triple award winner (Bastien, Garrett, and Holmes) owns a 4-1 record to go with a 1.99 goals-against average and .940 save percentage.
Forward Scott Wilson is tops in goals (4), points (8), and plus/minus (+4). Derrick Pouliot and Czech rookie Dominik Simon lead in assists (5 each). Veteran Tom Kostopoulos and defenseman Will O’Neill (3 goals apiece) are enjoying strong starts.
Pouliot paces the defense in scoring with 6 points. Steve Oleksy is the most penalized (18 PIM).
