My condolences to the family and friends of former Pittsburgh Penguins Adam Johnson. He died yesterday as result of an on-ice incident while playing in the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) in the UK. Johnson had his neck cut by a skate blade during a collision in a game where his Nottingham Panthers were playing the Sheffield Steelers.
From what I have read, Johnson started skating back to his bench under his own power after the encounter, but he was quickly met by teammates and team trainer. They immediately began to work on him, putting up screens, postponing the game, and clearing the arena.
He was taken to the hospital but later died.
I always liked Adam Johnson and thought he should have been given the opportunity to replace Carl Hagelin as the team’s puck hound, given the kid’s flat-out speed.
Again, speaking for all of Penguin Poop, our condolences to all those affected by this tragic loss.
How terribly, terribly tragic. Twenty-nine is way too young to pass on.
I, like you, had hopes that Johnson could’ve replaced Hagelin as our puck hound. The kid could flat-out fly. Another player who, for whatever reasons, was given a quick hook by Sullivan.
Despite extremely limited usage (6:03 ATOI spread over 13 games) he had 3.04 points/60. To put that in perspective, Sid’s P/60 is 3.65.
