The Penguins have recalled forward Sam Poulin from their Wilkes-Barre/Scranton farm club. In corresponding moves, they placed forwards Kevin Hayes (upper body) and Cody Glass (concussion) on IR.
Hayes is expected to be out week-to-week.
This will be the 23-year-old Poulin’s third stint with the Pens. He opened the 2022-23 season with the big club before being assigned to the Baby Pens after three games and subsequently taking a leave of absence. He likewise spent three games with the Pens last spring in a limited role.
In those six games, Poulin’s registered an assist and eight hits to go with a minus-4, while averaging a shade under nine minutes of ice time.
In 11 games with the Baby Pens this season, he’s tallied three goals and six assists, good for nine points, the second-best mark on the club. This on the heels of a breakout 16-goal, 31-point campaign with the Baby Pens (in 41 games) in ’23-24.
While Sam’s established himself as a solid contributor in the AHL, the jury’s still out at the big-league level. Although strong in traffic thanks to his husky 208-pound frame, skating may be an issue for the former Quebec League scoring star.
