Penguins Waive Matt Nieto

The Penguins have placed Matt Nieto on waivers today. If the veteran forward passes through unclaimed, a likely scenario, he can be reassigned to the Baby Pens.

Cast primarily in a fourth-line role since being signed to a two-year deal in the summer of 2023, the 32-year-old defensive specialist has been largely unproductive to the tune of two goals and seven points in 52 games with the black-and-gold.

In fairness to Nieto, he suffered injuries to both knees last season that required surgery, including a reconstructive MCL procedure on his left knee last May. To his credit, he battled back to at least make himself a viable depth option this season.

As far as my personal druthers are concerned? I’d much rather have a hungry, aggressive player like Boko Imama manning that roster spot.

Based on today’s move, I may get my wish.

Why does it take the Pen’s so long to figure things out that we knew month’s
ago?? The problem here is no one is going to pick Nieto up on waivers and
Sullivan will have him right back in the lineup.
On another not POJ has to go. The guy is all over the place on the ice and
    not in a productive way.
