Wrap It Up in 5

At 7:02 P.M. on Tuesday night, STH35  received a text message from Got Malkin.  It simply read, “Fleury – Shutout”.  The result wasn’t exact, but it was a good prophecy on who the star of the game would be.  This is the same person who called me before the Steelers’ fifth Super Bowl win and said, “Willie Parker is going to set a Super Bowl record for the longest touchdown run in Super Bowl history.”  And way back when he was a six-year-old, the night of Stanley Cup victory number one, he drew a picture of the Stanley Cup and put six numbers on it.  All six of those players scored goals in the Pens victory that night.  Uncle Phil and Jerry were thrown into the pool, then off to the airport.  I can’t wait to see what he tells me before game five!

Mark Andre Fleury won game four for the Pens.  There is really not much else to say.  Some of the saves were mind-boggling.  Let’s hope he doesn’t have to carry the team again on Thursday, but it’s good to know that he can if necessary.  So what must the team do to win as a group and wrap up this series?  Stay out of the penalty box.  The Flyers generate so much offense on their power play (sixth overall this season) that it also carries over some momentum into their five-on-five play.  Keep it SIMPLE.  Zone to zone hockey with as few mistakes as possible.  Pressure the Flyer defense when in the attacking zone.  Score an early power play goal.  We saw the effect that had in game one, and it would be a big boost again.  Like we’ve said from the start, PENS IN FIVE!  That’s the view from E-11.

  1. The Rangers won that game last night in much the same fashion as the Pens beat the Flyers the night before. Washington dominated that game and lost. I, however, am not complaining.

  2. I think the ‘Guins need to go back to the way they played the first two games. It seems they can play two types of game against the Flyers.

  3. There is one thing I’m sure of, and it’s that Got Malkin’s prognostications have got to be better than STH35’s (Season Ticket Holder 35 years) memory, while I am not the “Uncle Phil” mentioned and luckily I am in no way related to STH35 🙂 , I was the first one in the pool that night and had to wear my Penguin boxer shorts (the only thing I had left that was dry) and my Penguin boxer shorts only to the airport. I was lucky enough to see all of the players and Coaches , high five, shake their hands and get some great photos. The other thing is I’m not sure that Jerry was even there!

  4. Tomorrows game could be just that type of game where the Pens show up offensively in a big way. All we need is to come out and play it like there`s no tomorrow and get that first goal. There`s lot`s of time to rest if we put this one away, and that kind of offensive outing will give the Penguins a lot of confidence going into the second round. I`m not expecting anything but a win, but if Petr Sykora can get one and Jordan Staal, it will mean a lot more to this team. It`s time we display some serious offense. LET`S GO PENS!

  5. Completely agree with “staying out of the penalty box.”….The Penguins have completely owned play 5 on 5….The Flyers have no match for Cooke-Staal-Kennedy and Dupruis-Talbot-Adams….The 3rd and 4th lines are winning this series because of their forechecking ability, causing the puck to stay constently in the Offensive Zone….Stevens is being forced to eliminate his 4th line when the play flows….Stay out of the box, Win Game 5, Root for the Capitals and the Whalers…..I want Ovechkin and the Caps next….

  6. Haha. I love calling stuff. Even if you only get 25% of them right, you get to feel smart 25% of the time, which is more than John Stevens. But this prediction was rather easy after reading the quotes from Fleury and how individually responsible he felt for the loss in Game 3. Flower Power was due for a massive night, and he delivered. If he felt responsible for their loss on Sunday, he no doubt knows he was solely responsible for Tuesday night’s win. I agree with STH35, hopefully he doesn’t have to do that any more, because while I love watching a great goaltender, I would rather see some of the Penguins heavy arsenal unloaded this Thursday. Another blowout would be a great way to end the “Cry”ers season, and if they score quick, Biron will no doubt crack like the Liberty Bell.

    Go Pens!
    Got Malkin?
