Restricted Free Agents: The Pittsburgh Penguins must extend a qualifying offer to a restricted free agent to retain negotiating rights to that player.
Players who earned less than $660,000 in the previous season must be offered 110 percent of last season’s salary. Players making up to $1 million must be offered 105 percent. Players making over $1 million must be offered 100 percent. If the qualifying offer is not made, the player becomes an unrestricted free agent.
If the player rejects a qualifying offer, he remains a restricted free agent and can file for Salary Arbitration. The Penguins or the player can file for salary arbitration to settle contract disputes. The Penguins can file for arbitration once in a players career, players can file as often as the like. The Penguins cannot ask for players salary to be reduced by more than 15%.

Let Gonch, Poni and Leopold go. I think Letang is ready to step on the PP and fill some of the Gonch void. Goligoski’s offensive upside will take care of what Leopold tried to bring to the table. Picking up Hamhuis, Sutton or Volchenkov would be ideal. Keep Cooker and Billy-G around… I think Guerin still has something to offer and will sign for a discount.
I disagree, I think that before the Sutton hit on Leopold he was playing very well offensively (which he’s not really know for now) but even after he was hit he was solid defensively. Gonchar has to come back unless you can find a younger offensive defensman to cover for him. Letang nor Goligoski are ready for that yet. I think it was proven in the Montreal series that the defense was exposed and if you take 2 of the better defensive defensemen out of the lineup there will be glaring holes. I do agree with re-signing Cooke. Intregal part of the team for sure. I would let Fedotenko, Poni and Guerin leave freeing up enough room to keep Gonchar and Leopold. That would leave enough cap space left to go after a solid 2 way winger to play with Crosby. malkin will step up next seasono and prove the critics wrong and we’ll be back on the way to the cup! Go Pens Go!
They need to try and sign gonch but i dont think its gonna happen
I agree Happy, Try and keep Billy, find a defensive d-man and keep Cooke. Bring up Jeffrey and Tangradi and go after a free agent winger. I don’t care for Alex GO GO, Leopold would stay for a good two year deal

Gonch, Poni & Feds are gone, there is no way they sign. Cooke & Lovejoy are the most important signings on the list.
I hate to say it, but we need Gonch and Cooke. Billy is done. The Poni experiment was a flop. Leopold didnt do anything but put his head out for Sutton to knock it off and NO ONE on Pittsburgh did anything. Bring back Georgie and let Godard play on the forth line. Think Godard Rupp and Laraque?
that would be one hell of a scary forth line with Godard, Rupp, and Laraque.
