Miroslav Satan?33 years old with 3.5 million against the salary cap was just put on waivers.? This means two things, one the Penguins were unable to find anyone interested in Satan and two the Penguins are getting rid of his salary against the cap.? This most likely means the Penguins are really going after a big name player. ?
Big names being tossed aroung right now?is Marian Gaborik 26 years old 7.5 million against the cap another is San Jose’s??Jonathan Cheechoo 27 years old and 3 million against the cap, he has been struggling as of late. Alexei Kovalev? 35 years old 4.5 million against the cap this year.? Nik Antropov 28 years old 2.15 million against the cap.
By the Numbers: ?The NHL’s salary cap this year is set at $56.7 million.? Currently because of bonus structures and trades, the Penguins have?$3.658 million clear to spend.? Add Satan’s salary to that and you’ve got $7.158 million clear to spend.? Next Year the Penguins already have around $47 million spent on 13 players and would need to sign at least 7.? Depending on the whether the salary cap moves up or down or stays the same, there is not a lot of room to roam. Jonathan Cheechoo fits into the salary range and is signed for 2 more years.? Gaborik is a unrestricted free agent, so is Kovalev & Antropov.
Here is a list of other?Unrestricted Free Agents the Penguins have at the end of the Year, their age?and what their current salary level is:??
