Three days before the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, the Rangers have removed some pre-draft drama from the proceedings by electing to cede their top pick (12th overall) to the Penguins.

Kyle Dubas acquired the pick, which was top 13-protected, from the Canucks as part of the February 1 swap that sent Marcus Pettersson and Drew O’Connor to the Pacific Northwest. Who, in turn, had acquired the pick the day before from the Rangers in the J.T. Miller deal.

The additional pick certainly opens up options for Dubas and the Pens, who also hold the 11th overall pick, including the possibility of trading up.

Stay tuned.
