The Penguins lost a highly entertaining but ultimately disappointing game to visiting Utah last night at PPG Paints Arena by a 4-3 count in overtime.
An otherwise brilliant 30-save performance by Arturs Silovs was offset by a Logan Cooley hat trick.
Flashing warp-drive speed and incredible skills, the “Pittsburgh Kid” spotted the Mammoth a two-goal first period lead.
Erik Karlsson broke through for the locals at 8:38 of the second period with a surgical shot from the slot. Rickard Rakell knotted the score at 2-all midway through the third period with a top-shelf shorty, his third goal in four games.
The Pens capped what would’ve been a delicious comeback with 24.4 seconds remaining in regulation with a go-ahead goal off a net-front scramble by Ben Kindel. However, Cooley notched the game-tying tally on a deflection practically at the final horn to send the game to overtime.
Mikhail Sergachev scored the winner for Utah at 3:27 of the extra stanza.
