The Penguins have made some significant moves in the wake of Monday night’s cave-in in Toronto.
Goalie Tristan Jarry and forwards Justin Brazeau and Noel Acciari were placed on IR. Brazeau and Acciari have upper-body injuries, Jarry’s ailment is undisclosed.
Due to the IR designation, they’ll need to remain on the shelf for a minimum of seven days from the date of their respective injuries.
The Pens also sent defenseman and former first-round pick Owen Pickering back to the Baby Pens following four increasingly rocky outings.
Summoned from the Baby Pens were a pair of 30-year-old vets, Danton Heinen and Ryan Graves, and…drum-roll please…hot goalie prospect Sergei Murashov.
It’s safe to say all three were tearing it up in Wilkes. Heinen was tied for the AHL lead in scoring with 14 points in 10 games (5+9). Graves paced the Baby Pens defensemen with seven points (1+6) and a plus-9.
As for Murashov, the 21-year-old wunderkind was named AHL Goalie of the Month for October on the strength of a 1.73 goals against average and sterling .931 save percentage, not to mention his 5-2 record.
I’m especially anxious to see Murashov in action.
In an odd way, Graves as well. Once-upon-a-time, he was a reasonably competent NHL defenseman. I keep wanting to believe that player is buried in there somewhere beneath the rubble of the past two seasons.
No word as of yet about keeping kid defenseman Harrison Brunicke beyond his nine-game entry level contract threshold.
